It is with huge sadness that we report the death of our beloved founder and mentor, Lisa Diane Bux, who died unexpectedly at home on December 2. She is survived by her mother, Doris Caroline Bux.
Lisa had a passion and vision for gardens and was never happier than putting her designs on paper and overseeing a project to fruition. Many clients in the Williamsburg area benefitted from her expertise as did her previous clients in the New Hope, Pennsylvania area. In all, she had over thirty years of experience designing and installing gardens and rock walls. She loved her horses, cats, and dogs. New Kent Animal Shelter has been most helpful in finding new homes for her pets.
In April, Lisa opened A Southern Gardener, a store catering to gardeners at 7417 Richmond Road, Williamsburg. Her staff loved helping implement her somewhat unconventional visions. The store could not look more festive than it does now, with the inverted lichen covered crabapple tree at the entrance hung with glittering icicles and silver baubles. All decorations are garden-related in some manner.
Sadly, the store must close at the end of December. So many customers say it is their favorite store and that they must traverse it two or three times to see all the delicious offerings, hidden here and there.
As of today, everything in the store will be on sale for cash or check only; the store will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. every day. From 25 to 75 percent off all the merchandise, even the newly arrived. As well, the store manager is bringing Lisa’s personal Christmas-related items to the store. Lisa was a discerning collector and the items she has are quite different and of high quality.
For gardening clients, we are still in business!
